Intercultural Engagement
Learning different cultures, various generational differences, and how to interact with people of different views than myself was not something I expected to find when volunteering at the Minnesota Zoo to teach guests about animals and the natural world.
I discovered the interconnected relationship between cultures through three different events. The Mexican and Dakota cultures helped immerse me and taught me how similar we are at the root.

A culture rooted in language is something unique to American Sign Language. A course at MSU - Mankato and a book following the lives of students and faculty at a Deaf school has taught me the interconnected relationship and importance between language and culture.
